Think Ahead Thursday...

Each week I host "Think Ahead Thursdays" on WING-TV. I talk with students about what it means to Begin with the End in Mind by "thinking ahead" - having a plan. These talks focus on AVID strategies teachers are using in class, including: time management, making plans, setting goals, and taking action to meet those goals.

This week, we are "thinking ahead" as we plan and prepare for SC READY and SC PASS state testing. Here are some tips I shared with students on WING-TV during the past two weeks:

  • Read as much as possible everyday. RTE recommends 30 minutes daily.
  • Complete homework every night. Homework is how you practice what you have learned.
  • Talk to your teacher about things you don't understand. Ask questions in class!
  • Get plenty of rest each night. The National Sleep Foundation state that children ages 6-13 need 9 to 11 hours of sleep each night! Read more...
  • Exercise everyday. RTE students can start with Fun Run at 7:30 AM.
  • Have a positive attitude. Be a cheerleader for your classmates, and they will be a cheerleader to encourage you!
Parents, you can help RTE prepare for testing by talking with your child(ren) about these things at home. We thank you for your support!
