Handbook Highlights by Ms Hill - Special Spotlight

This Week's Special Spotlight:

What is the big, white "X" for at the turn in drop off line?

PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK THE X!
This is to keep the lane clear of cars for Boys and Girl's Club and Employees students to pass in the left hand lane before the 7:30 bell. Blocking the "X" causes traffic back-ups and employees will be unable to get to the front parking areas. If you have a larger vehicle, make sure the back end of your vehicle is completely clear of the white line.
"Things may appear smaller than they actually are."

Boosterthon Fun Run October 26

RTE's Boosterthon Fun Run is Wednesday, October 26! All parents are invited to come on out to RTE's backyard and cheer on your runners!

PreK-1st grades: 8:30
2nd-3rd grades: 9:45
4th-5th grades: 11:00

Students will need to wear their school-provided "Being There" t-shirts that are worn on field trips. If your child's teacher has kept their shirts in the classroom, they can put it on over what they wear to school. If we experience chilly temperatures that morning, please layer the Being There shirt over a long-sleeved t-shirt, rather than wearing a jacket. Students will wear a lap-marking sticker on the back of their shirt, and it is difficult to mark laps with a jacket on.

Boosterthon Stats & PTO meeting

Day 5 Boosterthon Stats:

85% of students registered on funrun.com (481/565)*
53% of students pledged (300/565)
39 states **
25 countries
18 meals donated locally

*RTE PTO and our principal, Mrs. Tucker, have challenged us to make it to 100% registration.  In the past 5 years no other school has reached 100% Boosterthon registration.  Let’s show that we have what it takes to break this record! Remember, registering your child online at funrun.com does not cost any money at all.  But we want to get every student involved in the fun and learn that anyone can make a difference

**The 11 states we need to complete the 50 state challenge are: Delaware, Idaho, Kentucky, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Vermont, Wyoming. If you know anyone in these states, please reach out for a pledge--even $1 counts!

Boosterthon: A Million Students Strong

Boosterthon's Fundraising Impact: Beyond RTE

Did you know by raising funds through this year’s Boosterthon: Be the Change program, each class has the opportunity to work together and give meals to someone in need right here in Columbia?
Every time a class raises $30 per lap, Boosterthon will donate three meals to a local person in need. A Million Students Strong is a way to teach our students the value of giving.
How many meals can our students give?

Handbook Highlights by Ms Hill

This Week's Handbook Highlight is:

Early Dismissal Procedures

Every school day is integral to the successful learning of all students and we encourage you not to schedule appointments during school hours. However, we do understand that sometimes this is unavoidable. In these instances, please be mindful of the Richland 2 procedures regarding
early dismissals.
  1. It is the procedure of all Richland 2 schools not to permit early dismissals AFTER 2:15
  2. Students will not be released from class until they have been signed out by a authorized adult
  3. Notes, emails and phone calls regarding early dismissals will be used for teacher reference only as office personnel cannot "have student's ready" until they have been signed out in the office by an authorized adult
  4. Proper identification is REQUIRED by any adult signing a child out of school
  5. Students will not be released to anyone that is not on the authorized list submitted by parents or guardians and on file here at school.

Bus Evacuation Drill - October 10.

On Monday, October 10, all students at Round Top will practice bus evacuation procedures.  Since this procedure involves "sitting and scooting" as students approach the rear emergency exit of the school bus, we ask that students wear comfortable old clothes and shoes.  If possible, we ask that girls not wear heels or skirts on this day for their comfort, convenience, and safety.  Please contact Mrs. Bennett if you have any questions or concerns.

School Closed

Due to Governor Haley declaring a State of Emergency,
Richland 2 will be closed Wednesday (10/5), Thursday(10/6) and Friday(10/7).
This includes ALL school activities (Boys and Girls club, Child Development and After School Activities)

FAQ's:
WHY ARE SCHOOLS CLOSED? : Some Columbia Area Schools are used as evacuation shelters for those needing shelter from the coast so the facilities must be cleared for emergency workers and those seeking shelter.
WHAT ABOUT CHILD CARE? : Unfortunately, when the district is closed, so are the programs that use our facilities.
WHEN WILL WE MAKE THE DAYS UP? : Inclement weather days are already scheduled into the Richland 2 calendar for instances such as these. You can check out the calendar on the Round Top Website as well as the Richland 2 website for those dates.

Thank You and have a Safe and Dry Weekend.

Extra, Extra, Read All About It!

Students in Mrs. Paschoal and Mrs. Sanders' classes are giving the latest news from the area. The students and I talked about text features of a newspaper, shared local newspaper titles, and will write informational texts based on the book, Tuesday, by  David Weisner. The suspense was eerie all throughout the book. The students put on their detective hats to see what events took place so they could share with the public. We talked about Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How it all happened in the Blythewood Community (for pretend). Ask these students about reading their articles on the front page of the Columbia Star (for pretend)! They will surely make front page with these articles. :)
