Girls on the Run Starts Sept. 8th!

Space is still available for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade girls!  GOTR is much more than running - Register your daughter in GOTR to:

• have fun playing games!
• make new friends!
• learn about herself!
• learn to be a better friend!
• become healthier!
• talk about girl issues!

Registration:

• Online Registration begins August 10th. Late Registration begins September 1st.
• There are a limited number of slots available on a first-come, first-served basis.  
• A $150 registration fee applies. Scholarships are available (see the application for details).

Schedule:

• Season begins September 8th (10 week program)
• Meetings Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 -4:30 PM
• November 21st GOTR Celebratory 5k!

September is Attendance Awareness Month!

RTE will be observing Attendance Awareness month in an effort to increase attendance...which will increase student performance!

Did you know?:

• Students with good attendance do better in school than those with poor attendance, beginning in elementary school and all the way through high school.
• Preschool and Kindergarten students with high absences are more likely to struggle reading on grade level by the 3rd grade.
• Too many absences in one classroom can slow down instruction for other students, who must wait for the teacher to repeat lessons for students who have missed school.
• Excessive excused and unexcused absences - including late arrivals and early dismissals - can add up to lost instructional time from the classroom.

RTE's School Improvement Council is spearheading a campaign to improve student attendance by decreasing the number of students who arrive late and/ or are picked up from school early.  If you are interested in supporting our SIC by becoming a member, please email Chairperson Kathy Johnson at kkj16@att.net to submit your nomination.

Girls on the Run

A new season of Girls on the Run is approaching and we would like your daughter to join!  GOTR is a character development program for 3rd through 5th grade girls!  Your daughter will have fun, learn about themselves, make new friends, and become healthier!  It is not about running fast; it is about becoming confident in who you and becoming a leader! Picture Day Tuesday, Aug 25th!

RTE fall picture day is this Tuesday! These pictures will be used in our yearbook. Students are not required to bring in any forms or money on this day. Picture packages will be sent home for purchasing at a later date.  Here are some tips for great pictures:

OUTFIT: Plan ahead! Students will take close-up portraits. Avoid wearing white, spaghetti straps and t-shirts with words, logos, superheros, etc. DO wear solid colors, small patterns, and shirts with collars.

HAIR: Avoid trying new hairstyles. DO get haircuts and practice new hairstyles a few days in advance.

SMILE: Talk to your children about showing off their smile! Photographers will encourage students to smile with their mouth open because we know that missing teeth and braces are part of being a kid.  Parents will want to remember these days for years to come!

Get ready to "smile big!"

Regular Car Rider Arrival/Dismissal Procedures Begin on Monday, August 24!

On Monday, August 24, 2015, we will begin our regular arrival and departure procedures for car riders.  Please be familiar with these procedures in order to create a safe, win-win environment for all members of the Round Top Family!  You will receive a Connect Ed message on Sunday evening reminding you of these procedures.  The procedures will also be attached to the e-mail that accompanies the phone message.

Back to School Bash - Did You Register Yet?

If you have not already done so, please click HERE to register for Round Top's 2015 Back to School Bash on Monday, August 17th at 5:00 PM. This new event replaces the Meet & Greet and Open House events that we have offered in the past.  Complete one electronic registration form for EACH Round Top student you're bringing with you that night.  If you're bringing more than one child with you, complete the form and click SUBMIT.  Then, click "Submit Another Response" to register another child.  

Starting at 5:00 PM, families can visit classrooms, drop off school supplies, visit after school vendors, and meet representatives from our PTO and SIC.  Starting at approximately 5:40 PM, we will begin moving all RTE students (students who will be attending RTE in the fall) to designated locations for dinner and a movie.  At 6:00 PM, parents will return to their child's classroom to hear information and expectations from the teacher.  The first classroom session will last approximately 20-25 minutes.  At 6:30 PM, a second classroom session will begin for parents who need to visit more than one classroom.  When parents are finished, they will need to sign their child out from the multipurpose room.  We encourage you to bring only RTE students with you, as younger/older children and infants will need to remain with their parents.  Limited parking will be available in the RTE parking lot, so we suggest you park in the field located next to RTE on the property of Blythewood Presbyterian Church.

New Family Orientation is Tonight at 6:00 PM!

We apologize for the confusion created by an earlier blog post.  Our NEW FAMILY ORIENTATION is tonight -- Tuesday, August 4, at 6:00 PM in our Multipurpose Room.  This is an orientation session for families who are NEW to Round Top.  If you are NEW to RTE for the 2015-2016 school year, we look forward to seeing you tonight at 6:00 PM.

Parent Back to School Checklist

The first day of school on Wednesday, August 19th, but it's not too early to prepare!

1. Read the Back to School Letter from RTE Administration.
2. Complete Enrollment & Annual Registration for new & returning students.
3. Check the 2015-16 Calendar for special dates and holidays.
4. Review the RSD2 Back to School Handbook with your child.
5. Print School Supply Lists to take with you for school shopping.
6. Look up School Bus Routes for pick up/drop off locations.
7. Complete the School Lunch Application, if needed.
8. Make School Lunch Payments online.
9. Bookmark the RTE Website & School Calendar to view school information.
10. Sign up to receive the "RTE Flight Status" on our Blog to stay connected!
