Volunteers Needed for Teacher Appreciation Luncheon May 3

Teacher Appreciation Week at RTE is May 1-5!

As usual, the highlight of our Teacher Appreciation Week is the PTO-sponsored catered luncheon on Wednesday, May 3. But our teachers can't enjoy their luncheon without the help of many volunteers!
Volunteers commit to a one-hour bloc sometime between 10:40-1:00 depending on the grade level. During this time, volunteers will escort a class to lunch and recess so that teachers can enjoy their luncheon.
We currently have 9 Homerooms without a volunteer:
Ms. Shae-Sutton
Ms. Novack
Ms. Parks
Ms. Cleckley
Ms. Kendall
Ms. Herrera
Ms. High
Ms. Ray
Ms. Hunter

Please sign up for a specific class at http://signup.com/go/w7D3Uq. If your child's class already has a volunteer, please consider signing up for another class.

Many thanks for your assistance on May 3 to show our beloved RTE teachers our appreciation!

Last Call for Campbell's Labels for Education & Fireflies Game Clarification

The Campbell's Labels for Education program is ending after this year. Please submit any Labels for Education you may still have by Friday, April 28th so that they may be processed and the PTO can redeem our points for school supplies.

Clarification on RTE Night at the Columbia Fireflies: PTO is no longer hosting a spirit night fundraiser in May at a Fireflies game. This has been replaced by the free ticket and food vouchers earned through our Read-A-Thon and Read with the Fireflies program. Students who earned a free ticket have already received their voucher for the May 5 game.

Rising BMS 6th Grader Orientation

Blythewood Middle School is having their annual
BMS Pathways to Success
on
Thursday, April 20th, 6:00 p.m., beginning in the school gym.
The previous orientation in January provided information for those families considering expanded choice, while
this program will be focusing on making a successful transition for those students and their parents who will be attending Blythewood Middle this Fall.

You will learn about summer opportunities like the BMS JumpStart Camp, BMS Charger Pride Summer Enrichment and afterschool program; receive information about summer reading activity, the 6th grade supply list, and information about enrichment offerings.

Additionally, you will find out what Charger Kick-Off is all about and how you can receive information and keep in touch.  The evening provides an opportunity to visit the 6th grade area classrooms and meet the teachers.
Our goal is to provide tools for a smooth transition from elementary school to the middle school.  We are looking forward to meeting and working with you soon.

Young Poets Recognized at Statewide Event

Sonia Baxter, from Mrs. Beacham's 3rd grade class, has been named the statewide winner of the Young Minds Dreaming Poetry Contest sponsored by the SC State Library.  Inspired by the poetry of Jacqueline Woodson (in front of the window in the picture above) and her award winning book, Brown Girl Dreaming, Sonia and most of our 3rd grade class submitted poetry to the contest. Sonia's poem was chosen from among over 600 poems received. Congratulations, Sonia!  Here's a video of Sonia reciting her poem from SCETV:
