Did you know that March is Music in Our Schools Month (MIOSM)!? The purpose of MIOSM is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children – and to remind citizens that schools is where all children should have access to music.
Round Top kicked off MIOSM by hanging a special piece of music artwork by a 5th grader, Ben Sears. We have also had special student guest performances on WING TV from Payton Henderson (1st), who played the xylophone, Jack Powell (4th), who played the guitar and sang, and Ashley Duncan (5th), who played the bass guitar. We will continue to feature our student's performance as the month continues.
If you get a chance to walk around the building, check out our MIOSM posters and take a look at the classroom doors, do you know the musical symbols and their meaning?
Remember to discuss and teach your family folk songs with your children. We have had some great folk song sharing in music class! Ms. Silva and Ms. Whisnant (student teacher from USC) have enjoyed hearing new songs and revisiting familiar folk songs!
On March 12th, 3rd graders got to see and participate in a special music performance by BHS' World Music Program.
On Monday, March 26th, we will be sharing what music does for us by bringing a "Music Makes Me____" sticker to lunch and placing it on a display.
