Christmas Cards Wanted!
Student Council first heard about Jacob from a Today show news story. Jacob is a 9 year old who has a rare form of brain cancer called neuroblastoma. Unfortunately, Jacob's cancer has spread and his prognosis is not good. It is unlikely he will live through the holiday season. Jacob loves two things: Christmas and penguins. His wish is to receive homemade Christmas cards. Student Council decided to pair Christmas with penguins and send him a package of love from sunny South Carolina.
If you'd like to wish him a Merry Christmas, send your homemade card to:

Nurse's News
As part of the eight components of school health, School Nurses conduct periodic vision, dental, hearing, blood pressure, and other screenings as recommended by SC DHEC, and as needed as part of the nurse's assessment during a health room visit. These screenings are important in early detection of hearing or vision difficulties that may impact teaching and learning. Many times a student is not even aware he/she is having difficulty seeing the board, reading, or hearing classroom instructions. Please contact Glory Jovi, RN, District Nurse 803-691-8676 ext 3010 if you do not want your child screened.

September is Attendance Awareness Month!
RTE will be observing Attendance Awareness month in an effort to increase attendance...which will increase student performance!
Did you know?
- Students with good attendance do better in school than those with poor attendance, beginning in elementary school and all the way through high school.
- Preschool and Kindergarten students with high absences are more likely to struggle reading on grade level by the 3rd grade.
- Too many absences in one classroom can slow down instruction for other students, who must wait for the teacher to repeat lessons for students who have missed school.
- Excessive excused and unexcused absences - including late arrivals and early dismissals - can add up to lost instructional time from the classroom.
